Legume break crop nitrogen trial

This trial investigates the nitrogen-fixing potential of a wide range of legumes, improving soil nitrogen levels and biological activity.

About this site

The Goulburn site explores how legume break crops can restore soil fertility between cereal and canola rotations. Each species is assessed for biomass, nodulation, and nitrogen contribution to following crops. The data helps build more sustainable crop rotations for southern producers.

What we’re trialling:

Nitrogen fixation capacity
Trialling species including beans, peas, medics, and other legumes
Aiming to identify the best break crops between cereals and canola to boost soil nitrogen and biological activity

Testing nature’s nitrogen factories

This research helps identify the legumes that deliver the greatest nitrogen return and long-term soil improvement.

Come out and take a look for yourself

There’s no better way to understand a seed’s performance than seeing it in the paddock. Our Territory Managers can connect you with upcoming field days and trial site visits, so you can walk the rows, see the results, and have a chat with the people who know the land best.
