Forage oats trial

This site focuses on forage oat breeding, assessing new and experimental lines to improve grazing performance. Trials compare multiple oat breeding lines across four NSW locations.

About this site

The Piallamore site provides a controlled environment to test oat varieties for growth habit, grazing recovery, and feed quality. The trials help farmers select oats that balance early feed supply with resilience for repeat grazing. Data from Pilliamore feeds directly into AlfaGen’s forage oats programme, guiding future variety development.

What we’re trialling:

Early vigour and grazing recovery
Yield potential and regrowth after grazing
Multiple oat breeding lines across four NSW locations
Variety comparisons across climatic zones

Testing oats that go the distance

Results from Piallamore are used to refine oat selections suited to both dryland and irrigated systems, giving farmers more feed flexibility throughout the year.

Come out and take a look for yourself

There’s no better way to understand a seed’s performance than seeing it in the paddock. Our Territory Managers can connect you with upcoming field days and trial site visits, so you can walk the rows, see the results, and have a chat with the people who know the land best.
